Deposition of Susan Ann Dove, September 17, 1869

State of North Carolina
County of Craven

On this 17th day of September, 1869, personally appeared before me, a Clerk of Pamlico U S Dist Court & state aforesaid, Susan Ann Dove, who, resides near Newbern, N.C., & who, being duly sworn, deposes & says: That she is the identical Susan Ann Dove who has applied for a Pension as the widow of Lewis O. Dove deceased, late Private in Co "C," 14th Regt U.S. C H Artillery, who died at Morehead City, N.C. April 17th, 1865 of Jaundice; a disease contracted in the service & in the line of duty. That she was with him during his illness, & at the time of his death; & was informed by Dr Sitler, the Surgeon of this Regiment, & who attended my deceased husband during his illness, that said deceased died of the difficulty above mentioned, & with which, he, deceased, was ill some two or three weeks only. That this, with the evidence inclosed, is the best evidence I can produce as to cause, & time of death of said deceased. That there is no officer of this Company, nor no Surgeon of this Regiment, residing in North Carolina, from whom claimant could produce evidence as to time & cause of death of said deceased, therefore this as above stated, is the best proof (with the accompanying evidence) that she can furnish on the points named, That she resides near Newbern, N.C. which place is her Post Office address; & further that she is still a widow & has not remarried.
