Perry, David Bradley

1800 - 1866

Though his family hailed from Connecticut, David Bradley Perry fully embraced the institution of slavery when he married Mary Latham Williams in 1831 and took on management of the Rosedale Plantation in Beaufort County, North Carolina. The number of people he kept enslaved rose decade over decade: fifty-two people in 1840; eighty-five people, ranging in age from one month to sixty years, in 1850; and ninety-nine people, ranging in age from one to seventy-one years, in 1860.
