Deloni, Benton

Prior to his enlistment in June 1863, Benton was held in slavery by a man named Spranglin in Franklin County, Alabama, roughly five miles from the plantation of Lorenzo Guy, where his wife Grace was held in slavery. He was then going by the name of Benjamin. The 22-year-old Deloni was described by enrolling officers as having a dark/ black complexion, black eyes, and black hair and was by occupation a farmer.
